Strength, Weakness, Opportunities & Treat analysis (SWOT) of the department:

(Related to dept. strength, options, shortcomings and how in future to improve)

Our strength:

  1. Good number of experienced faculty members comprising of one Assistant Professor and four Post-Graduate Teachers.
  2. The sincerity, punctuality and dedication of the faculty members motivate the students in their academic pursuits.
  3. A rich collection of books is available in the library of our department.
  4. We organize seminars, special lecture etc. to induct our students with the concepts and issues related our subject.
  5. The IGNOU Study Centre of our college offers PG Degree in Political Science. So, there is a scope for the teachers and students to gather basic ideas about the curriculum of the higher degree.

 Our weaknesses:

  1. Adverse students-teachers ratio.
  2. High dropout rate of the students.
  3. Lack of technological and innovative teaching-learning facilities.
  4. The department does not have any subscribed academic journal.
  5. Due to the adverse teachers’ students’ ration, the internal assessment and evaluation methods cannot not be implemented effectively.

 Our opportunities are the followings:

  1. There are experienced teachers to serve the department.
  2. Good number of students are really interested to build up their academic career right from this stage.
  3. The Ishan Udhay Scholarship for the poor students of North Eastern Region announced recently by the UGC may solve the problems of the poor students.
  4. Sufficient support and motivation drive for pursuing higher studies and building career assures higher success rate.

The challenges ahead of us are the followings:

  1. Majority of the students come from Bengali medium schools and rural area, face difficulties. It is a real challenge for the faculty members to motivate students to retain their interest in the subject.
  2. To provide support to huge number the students of the General Course.
  3. Stopping dropout rate of the students.
  4. Motivating the students to read text and reference books and not to follow note books designed only for the purpose of University Examinations.

 Future Plans:

  1. The department intends to more support to support the weak students pursuing General Course.
  2. Planning to organize more seminars, workshops etc. in future to create academic interest among the students and the faculty members.

The department has a plan to arrange regular sensitization programmes and support programmes to make the students equip with knowledge and skill to face the competitive examinations like TET, TPSC conducted examinations etc.
